From academics to behavior management, being a student at the Educational Development Center (EDC) can be productive yet challenging work. We know that fun social activities—especially when they are rewards for good behavior—are also an important part of the learning process for all students.
Most EDC student activities are rewards and incentives tied to our Behavioral Adaptation System. As students engage in positive behaviors, they work toward earning special privileges, such as:
Pizza parties, cookouts, and picnics
Game days, birthday, and holiday celebrations
Special outings such as swimming, skating, bowling, and sporting events
An annual VIP trip for the 15 students with the highest behavioral achievements
As students become aware of the connections between their own behavior and rewards, they begin to develop habits that ultimately improve their ability to function in a positive and socially appropriate manner when they leave EDC.
