Special Education Teacher

We're looking for skilled, professional Special Education Teachers to join our team. The successful candidate must have strong classroom management skills and is able to supervise para-professionals with-in their classroom. A successful candidate will have experience meeting the needs of students with both mild and severe emotional and behavioral disabilities in a public school setting. Provide individualized instruction based on each child's goals and abilities.
Qualifications:
Hold a VDOE Teacher’s License or license eligible
Hold a Bachelor’s Degree or higher
You must be creative, energetic, innovative and have a desire to make a difference in the lives of our students.
Experience with children in special education.
Demonstrates an ability to provide differentiated lesson plans.
Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with others, such as, students, teachers, therapist, parent/guardians, involved agencies, community and administration.
Experience in teaching functional life skills and pre-vocational skills is appreciated.
Able to provide classroom management.
Responsibilities:
Maintain a safe and secure environment for students. (Classroom management)
Maintain a classroom environment where students feel safe to express their thoughts and feelings.
Provide students with opportunities to develop social skills that will help them succeed in school and in the future workplace.
Build upon the strengths of students who have experienced difficulty in academic environments.
Participate in curriculum/material selection and development.
Participate as an active member of the school's community (e.g., parent-teacher conferences, meetings, open houses).
Assess and evaluate the results of all available educational, behavioral and psychological testing to determine baseline ability and achievement levels.
Develops and/or implements an IEP for each student consistent with the student’s ability level and achievement goals.
Develops and facilitates innovative, project-based, and hands-on activities lesson plans consistent with IEP while remaining flexible enough to be able to adapt to changes in the student and/or classroom.
Able to provide timely and accurate documentation.
Provide consistency and positive reinforcement throughout the classroom.

Pay: $53,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year

You must have experience working with children and adolescents with autism, students who are emotionally and socially challenged, students with learning disabilities, and mental health issues.
You must be an appropriate role model for children and parents, have the ability to work closely with others and communicate effectively. You must assist and support students academically and behaviorally.
You are responsible for working closely with students on an individual/group basis, in a self-contained classroom, whether virtual or in-person.
You must be computer efficient. Organization and documentation are also key.
QMHP-C - DIRECT HOURS OFFERED FOR REGISTERED APPLICANTS (VBOC) WITH A DEGREE IN PSYCHOLOGY OR SOCIOLOGY.
Staff must have the ability to:
Maintain accurate and confidential files and records
Have organizational and case management skills
Able to maintain accurate record-keeping
Computer literacy
Communicate effectively
Qualifications including:
College courses in education are helpful
Training or experience in Social Work or related fields.
Interest/experience in Special Education and/or Mental Health
Interest/experience in Physical Education is helpful. (This position requires extensive physical activity)
First/Aid CPR Certified/ Medication Administration (preferred)
Knowledge of Verbal Interventions and De-escalation Techniques
